Stallone hunts for the Idol’s Eye

Sylvester Stallone has stepped in for his “Copland” co-star Robert De Niro on crime thriller “Idol’s Eye”, says Screen Daily.

To be directed by Oliver Assayas (“Carlos”), the film is based on the true story of a thief who steals a blue diamond belonging to Chicago mafia boss Tony Accardo, leading to a clash between the two as authorities move in.

The project was originally due to lens in 2004 but financing fell apart at the last minute. At that time, De Niro, Robert Pattinson and Rachel Weisz were attached to star in the film.

“Twilight” star Pattinson and Weisz remain onboard the film.
