Star Wars alum to direct American Pastoral

Ewan McGregor will make his directorial debut with “American Pastoral”, the feature adaptation of the Philip Roth novel of the same name.

McGregor, who will star opposite Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Connelly, replaces Aussie director Phillip Noyce. Noyce had been attached to the project for a good decade.

Deadline says :

The story follows Seymour “Swede” Levov (McGregor), a legendary high school athlete who grows up to marry a former beauty queen (Connolly) and inherits his father’s business. Swede’s seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter (Fanning) rebels by becoming a revolutionary and committing a deadly act of political terrorism during the Vietnam War.

At one stage, original director Noyce had Paul Bettany and Evan Rachel Wood starring alongside Connelly.

The Lakeshore Entertainment production kicks off production in September in Pittsburgh.
