Straight Outta Compton scribe set for Ghost in the Shell

Jonathan Herman (“Straight Outta Compton”) will rewrite the script for anime-based live-action thriller “Ghost in the Shell”.

The DreamWorks film stars Scarlett Johansson as “a special ops cyborg who leads an elite task force called Section 9 for Hanka Robotics. Section 9 is devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, led by The Laughing Man, whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka’s advancements in cyber technology” (via THR).

Rupert Sanders will direct when production kicks off in New Zealand early next year.

Herman will work from previous drafts by William Wheeler and Jamie Moss, based on the popular Japanese comic books by Masamune Shirow.

“Ghost in the Shell” will release on March 31, 2017.
