Streep! Hanks! Spielberg! Now this is a movie!

Powerhouse trio Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Meryl Streep will unite for “The Post”, the spec script bought last fall by ex-Sony chief Amy Pascal.

The film, says Deadline, fixes on the vital role of the press in keeping the government honest. If there was a time to make such a film, it is now.

The film is a drama about the Washington Post’s role in exposing the Pentagon Papers in the ’70s. Hanks would play Post editor Ben Bradlee and Streep his publisher Kay Graham.

The film will be co-financed by Fox and Amblin Entertainment.

Though Streep and Spielberg have only worked together fleetingly (anyone remember the blue fairy in “A.I”?), he and Hanks go way back, having collaborated on quite a few films.
