UPDATE : Moviehole placed a call to a worker-bee at the WB who claimed the following rumour to be "lies, and nothing less". Just as we suspected.
Take it with a grain of home-brand table salt for now, but according to a seemingly reliable insider, Brandon Routh might be about to lose his "Superman" cape, before Warner has even shot one roll of film of him.
A reader tells us that he crossed paths with a scooper in the Superhero Hype forums, who apparently has got word of a few alarming developments on "Superman".
"He told me that last week, he and his friend (Warner employee, apparently) had dinner and this gentleman told him that the WB is well aware of the fans disappointment in Routh! He also said his friend told him that several WB employees and WB management have surfed online to many different Superman websites and forums and were shocked to hear some of the things people said about Brandon Routh. He also was told by his friend that a HUGE board meeting is scheduled this week and even though Superman Returns starts "production" in less than two weeks, that there is still a chance that Welling could be signed on as the STAR!!! He said that over the last few months the WB has been well aware of how some fans have been upset and that they have voiced there opinions well with letter, telephone calls, and emails. He told me he would keep in touch with me through emails and let me know if anything comes from this meeting this week. Take this for what its worth everyone, something inside of me says that there is at least a 50% if not 60% chance that this is REAL news. Mostly cause this guy gave me his office email address", says the reader.
Hmmm….don’t quite know what to make of it myself, but I know there was (is) a lot of support out there for Tom Welling to don the cape. Would they seriously ditch Routh in favour of Welling at such a late stage though? I doubt it. I really doubt it.
