Just as we suspected, Sylvester Stallone knows nothing about the “Rambo 5” sales blitz that’s happening at Cannes. Yes, he planned on doing the film at one stage – but not any more. And yet the producers are still over on the sandy beaches of France trying to pimp the film!? Are they nuttso!?
So, what gives?
Sylvester Stallone told Aint it Cool News that he knows nothing about it-he’s finished with Rambo, even if the producers aren’t.
Says Harry Knowles from the site, ”Stallone told me in no uncertain terms -At the end of JOHN RAMBO – when he sees his home, those horses and he looks back at that road… for Sly, that was a road he is never walking down again. In August, he’s doing an expanded edition of JOHN RAMBO that seems to be coming to Blu Ray and DVD – where he is putting back into the films – a few moments here and there that help with the finality of that film. Including a monologue, somewhere around the head of the film which will basically give everything John Rambo has left to say, that is, as of yet, unsaid”.
“Sly has no clue” what’s going on at Cannes, said Knowles. ”When I floated the concept that it could be the rights holders trying to raise ludicrous funds to get Sly back in front of the camera. Sly said, “Maybe, but it ain’t happening.” He then told me that the folks behind those posters essentially said that if Sly didn’t do it -someone else would. And Sly seems fine with that.”
Yep, that’s right- with Stallone opting out of “Rambo 5”, the actor says he’s heard he may be replaced. Can you imagine anyone else playing Rambo but Sly!? And if they’re going to do that, why not just reboot the series… don’t continue from where Sly left off!
The “Rambo” series has a bit more of a rep than say, “The Punisher” franchise does – you can’t just substitute the lead actor and hope nobody notices/cares.They will, believe me.
You may remember that MGM announced a year or so back they “had plans” for Stallone’s other trademark franchise, “Rocky” too. It was suggested that Stallone wouldn’t be involved in whatever they did (likely his choice).
What a nightmare… a new actor playing Rocky and Rambo!?
