The Little Mermaid loses her director

Sofia Coppola has exited Universal and Working Title’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” adaptation due to ‘creative differences’.

Despite the loss of director, the film is set to press ahead. Caroline Thompson penned the script from previous drafts by Kelly Marcel and Abi Morgan.

“The Little Mermaid” was originally a fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen and was first published by in 1837. Possibly better known for Disney’s animated take on the classic, the story follows a mermaid who gives up her life in the sea for a human prince.
