The Loft

The Loft-226.CR2

Director Erik Van Looy remakes his own 2008 film “Loft” for US audiences… and the result is a real mixed bag.

Five hot young stars, ”Star Trek”’s Karl Urban, ”X-Men” alum James Marsden, Wentworth Miller (of ”The Flash”), Eric Stonestreet (of ”Modern Family”), and Matthias Schoenaerts (”The Drop”) play friends who decide to share the rent on a swanky apartment in the city.

In it, they’ll carry on extramarital affairs, party until the wee hours, and get up to any and all sorts of mischief – and their better halves won’t be none the wiser. But then someone has to go and ruin the revelry for everyone else. When a dead body turns up, and it’s soon discovered one of the five guys is the killer, the group turns paranoid as each one suspects another. Distrust runs rampant in this uber-serious “Very Bad Things” knock-off.

Aussie starlets Isabel Lucas (”The Water Diviner”) and Rachel Taylor (”Summer Coda”), as well as ”24” star Rhona Mitra, have pivotal supporting roles in this slick but mostly bland, generic erotic thriller.

Blu-ray : Audio and vision look terrific, with a sharp, well-detailed image accompanied by a flawless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack. No extras.
