The next Godzilla flick starts production

The latest “Godzilla” chapter has begun, beginning production in Atlanta, Georgia. Following 2014’s “Godzilla” and this year’s “Kong: Skull Island”, no doubt this one will be highly anticipated and also set us up nicely for the upcoming “Godzilla vs Kong” in 2020. The latest edition to the MonsterVerser will be an epic adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.

The film is being directed by Michael Dougherty and stars Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson, Aisha Hinds and Zhang Ziyi.

Interestingly, it seems that the follow up to 2014’s “Godzilla” has lost its title. Up until now, it’s been called “Godzilla: King of Monsters” but the official press release by Warner Bros. has it referred to as just “the next Godzilla feature”. However, the official synopsis (see below) still has reference to the presence of a variety of giant monsters, so don’t panic.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

While we have to wait until 2019 to get a glimpse at the giant lizard, here’s hoping some set photos get released soon.

“Godzilla 2” roars into theatres in March 2019.
