The Red franchise to continue on TV

An hourlong TV series based on the “Red” films – the ‘retired agents’ series starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman – is in the works at NBC, according to Deadline.

The Lionsgate/Di Bonaventura Pictures Television production will retain movie writers Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber along with producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

The movies revolved around a group of REDs (Retired Extremely Dangerous operatives) who return to action after the CIA sends assassins after one of them. The TV series version will retain the core concept of the films but will be set in a more grounded and authentic world, focusing on the characters’ darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out.

The first “Red” movie grossed over $200 million worldwide.
