“The Simpsons” co-developer Sam Simon is set to be honoured with the Writers Guild of America West’s Animation Writers Caucus (AWC) Writing Award.
The writer-producer will be presented with the lifetime achievement award later tonight at the AWC awards ceremony, set to take place at WGAW headquarters in LA.
Al Jean, executive producer of “The Simpsons” and past honouree, will present the prize, which honours Simon’s contribution to animation writing.
“Sam Simon taught me everything about animation writing, and even more about life,” said Jean.
His tenure on “The Simpsons” saw Simon co-write nearly a dozen episodes and, since departing in 1993, he remained an executive producer credit for close to 500 episodes.
Beyond “The Simpsons”, Simon has also written, produced and directed “Cheers”, “The Tracey Ullman Show”, “Taxi”, “The George Carlin Show” and “The Drew Carey Show”.
Simon is no stranger to award-winning, having shared in seven Emmy Awards for “The Simpsons” and two for “The Tracey Ullman Show”.
In fact, the writer has received Emmy nominations on a whopping 22 occasions, and “The Simpsons” has landed eleventh place on the WGA’s list of 101 Best Written TV Series.
Sam Simon will join a host of other talented writes who’ve previously won the award, including Matt Groening, Al Jean, Mike Riess, Brad Bird, Linda Woolverton, Stan Berkowitz, Mike Scully, Jules Feiffer, Patric Verrone and the late Dwayne McDuffie and Earl Kress.
