Tim Burton exits Disney’s Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie

Tim Burton won’t be directing “Maleficent”, the live-action ‘Sleeping Beauty’ spin-off that would’ve teamed the “Alice in Wonderland” director with Angelina Jolie.

The Hollywood Reporter says Linda Woolverton, who penned “The Lion King”, was assigned to write the film after Burton expressed some interest in the project – he wasn’t, however, officially attached to the project (that’s today’s lesson kids – ‘get it in writing!’).

Burton’s busy with “Frankenweenie”, and of course “Dark Shadows”, so probably just pulled out because his dance card was full.

Disney are now on the hunt for someone else to direct “Maleficent”, with “Harry Potter” vet David Yates rumored for the job.
