Trailer for Melbourne-shot Moja Vesna; released December 8

Sara Kern has made a strikingly assured jump to feature films with Moja Vesna.

Following a successful festival run, Slovenian-Australian writer and director Sara Kern’s feature debut Moja Vesna will release in cinemas December 8, 2022

After wowing festival audiences around the world with her poetic, visually stunning short films Good Luck, Orlo! and Vesna Goodbye, Sara Kern has made a strikingly assured jump to feature films with Moja Vesna.

Shot in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, and announcing exciting new talent across the board, this first ever Australian-Slovenian co-production charts the pain, tragedy, and minor triumphs of childhood with gutsy, singular grace.
Following its premiere at the prestigious Berlinale earlier this year, where it was nominated for two major awards, Moja Vesna went on to screen at the Melbourne International Film Festival and recently won three awards at the Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož where Sara Kern won best director, star Loti Kovacic best lead actress and the film received the Slovenian Art Cinema Association award.

The intimate tale of a family teetering on the edge, Moja Vesna stars extraordinary newcomer Loti Kovacic as ten-year-old Moja, who must act way above her years. While her listless Slovenian migrant father (Gregor Bakovic) weakens, Moja reaches out to her rebellious, pregnant teenage sister Vesna (Mackenzie Mazur) in a desperate attempt at emotional connection. Unprepared but brave in the face of the challenges that life throws at her, Moja finds respite in the arms of Miranda (Claudia Karvan), the mother of an unlikely new friend.

Moja Vesna will enjoy a limited theatrical release in Australia, giving local audiences the opportunity to luxuriate in this deeply moving drama’s stunning lyricism.

Moja Vesna will take hold of you and not let go.

To celebrate the cinema release, the Melbourne season will also include a number of special Q&A screenings at Lido Cinemas, Sun Yarraville and Thornbury Picture House.
