TV Round-up: Hack/Slash, Witherspoon, Kunis, Glover, Seacrest, Blue Mountain

Horror comic “Hack/Slash” is getting a TV adaptation.

“A Good Day to Die Hard” scribe Skip Woodsis writing the script about “Cassie Hack, a woman who symbolizes the cliche of the lone girl who survives at the end of every horror movie. However, the emotionally damaged girl not only survived but has become a killer of killers. Along with a burly protector named Vlad, Hack travels across the country hunting slashers in the vein of Halloween‘s Michael Myers, Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees and A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s Freddy Krueger (via THR).

The adaptation was originally set up as a feature with Marcus Nispel, Fredrik Bond and Todd Lincoln among those attached to helm.

 

 

Reese Witherspoon is developing a romantic mystery series for ABC about a billionaire who’s newly acquitted for the murder of his wife, her lover, and the female detective who almost succeeded in putting him away.

Witherspoon is attached to exec produce the potential series from writer Rob Long.

 

 

Mila Kunis is set to exec produce a TV adaptation of “Black Stiletto” for ABC.

Inspired by Raymond Benson’s book series,  “Black Stiletto centres on a young woman’s evolution into a modern day hero when a family secret from the past is revealed and puts the only family she’s ever known in imminent danger.

 

 

FX has ordered the first season of “Atlanta”, created by, and starring, Donald Glover.

The show co-stars Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Lee Stanfield and Zazie Beetz, and revolves around two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene.

“Atlanta” will air on FX in 2016.

 

 

Ryan Seacrest is developing “Squad Goals”, a scripted comedy for CBS.

The timely, multi-camera, hybrid sitcom “is an ensemble comedy about a group of late 20-something friends who met in college and realize it’s time to finally grow up” (via Variety).

Lindsey Rosin and Aaron Karo created the potential series and penned the script.

 

 

“Criminal Minds” exec producer Ed Bernero is set to develop a TV adaptation of Brian Panowich’s recently-released novel “Blue Mountain” for ITV Studios America.

The story is said to be a multi-generational saga of crime, family and vengeance, centering on a modern day small-town sheriff who is trying to distance himself from his family’s criminal empire.

Bernero will write the pilot and, should the series get picked up, he will serve as showrunner.
