TV series delays finale after Virginia tragedy

Due to today’s tragic events in Virginia, USA Network’s season finale of “Mr Robot” won’t be broadcast this week.

“The previously filmed season finale of Mr. Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia. Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time,” the network said in a statement.

The scene in question reportedly involves someone being shot and killed during a live TV interview – in much the same way journalist Alison Parker of WDBJ, the CBS affiliate in Roanoke, Virginia, was this morning.

Camerman Adam Ward and Vicki Gardner, the woman being interviewed by Parker at the time, were also shot. Ward passed from his injuries, while Gardner is in hospital recovering after surgery. The gunman was a laid off WDBJ employee named Vester Lee Flanagan II, motivated by a personal vendetta against his co-workers. He shot himself after the attack and died of injuries shortly after.

The season finale of “Mr Robot” will air next week, September 2.
