“Twilight : Eclipse” director David Slade (I probably should’ve said “30 Days of Night”; a much better CV addition) will direct the pilot episode of the new John Malkovich TV series “Crossbones”, according to Deadline.
Rather than an expose on the porn industry, as the title might mislead, the show’s actually the story of legendary pirate blackbeard, played by the chameleon-esque Malkovich.
Deadline says it’s “…from Luther creator Neil Cross and producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, is set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (Malkovich), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors.”
Slade also helmed the opener for “Hannibal”, about a villain of a different sort.

Clive Owen’s new 10-part hospital series for Cinemax, called “The Knick”, has added four more names to the credits, says Deadline. Andre Holland (”42”), Juliet Rylance (”Sinister”), Eve Hewson (”Enough Said”) and Michael Angarano (”Empire State”) are set to co-star opposite the British hunk in what sounds like a top priority download for many.
Steven Sodebergh directs the ten episode of the series, set in downtown New York in 1900, “The Knick centers on Knickerbocker Hospital and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. Holland, repped by Paradigm and Brookside Artist Management, will play Algernon, a gifted, black Harvard-trained surgeon who fights for respect in the hospital while trying to navigate his way through the racially charged turn-of-the-century NYC. Rylance will play Cornelia, a driving force whose passionate social work at The Knick will always play second fiddle to her wealthy father’s philanthropy toward it. Hewson will play Lucy, a young, naive nurse from the South who, like tens-of-thousands of others, has come to New York for adventure and finds more of it than she ever thought she would. Angarano will play Dr. Bertram “Bertie” Chickering Jr., an eager surgeon-in-training who gives up the chance to practice uptown in a wealthy hospital, for the romance and excitement of learning from a groundbreaking surgeon in the chaotic, downtown world of The Knick.”
Production is to begin in late September in New York.
