Tyrese may have nabbed Green Lantern

For months now, Tyrese Gibson has been championing himself for the role of Jon Stewart in Warner’s “Green Lantern” reboot, due 2020. The “Furious 7” actor’s interest piqued when fans sent him some cool Photoshops of him as emerald attired DC Hero Stewart. Within days, it seemed, the actor had secured himself a meeting with Warner Bros to discuss the role.

A couple of days back, it was revealed that the new “Green Lantern” movie would potentially feature two heroes – Jon Stewart and Hal Jodan, with Chris Pine the frontrunner to play the latter.

After the news hit, Gibson posted some fan art on his Instagram account (a pic of him and Pine as the ‘Green Lantern’ twosome) along with the following message :

“There are certain things I can’t speak on, but I will say, however this works out, it’s definitely the fans’ fault. I was at home minding my own business and fans start creating these fan-made videos of me as Green Lantern and I looked into it. I’ve been a fan of the Green Lantern. I took the oath, and I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about. We’ll just see what happens.”

“Listen, these muscles are here and they’re ready to be used. There are lot of people, domestically and internationally, who’s got love with your boy… I’m coming into this thing with some fans and some box office receipts behind my name and I say that proudly and humbly. I just think I deserve a shot at suiting up and becoming the Green Lantern.”

When Entertainment Tonight asked Gibson whether he might be present for DC’s panel at Comic-Con this year, the actor said :

“You never know, I might be there on the other side of an announcement. You never know.”

Now this is all well and good, but what’s the deal here – – is Gibson a lock to play the role but playing coy? Or is he still championing himself for the role – giving it one last push?

Guess we’ll find out soon.

#TheOath has been taken…..
