Caffeinated Clint
As a kid, I was rather awful to “V” – not the letter, the show. I remember it use to air a fair bit on TV (Yes, I know, how things change, a Science-fiction series screened repeatedly in prime time!) and that really annoyed my 10-year-old self. At that stage, not surprisingly, I wasn’t so much into lizard-looking aliens as I was, well, whatever kiddie show was around that time (“Speed Buggy”?). I think I went so far as to pen a letter to the local TV station asking them to remove “V” in favour of something more kid-skewed. Needless to say, my request was not met (but I do recall getting a nice letter – sweet receptionist probably got a chuckle out of it so responded).
A few years later, I of course revisited the series – and loved the heck out of it. I think it was also the place I first discovered Robert Englund, whose since become somewhat of a favourite of mine (of course, from “Nightmare on Elm Street” but also, “Ford Fairlane”, “2001 Maniacs”, “Phantom of the Opera” and the terminally-underrated “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare”).What had I been complaining about all those years before?
Well, some ten-year-old’s going to be probably go where I’ve gone before – ABC has just ordered a new “V” pilot.
Written on spec by “4400” co-creator/exec producer Scott Peters, the new “V” will center on a female Homeland Security agent.
Wonder if Englund will return?
