Van Damme doing a horror movie?

In a movie described as ‘The Exorcist meets The X-Files’

Jean Claude Van Damme’s going to branch out – either that or he’ll do one of those stretchy long manoeuvres like he did in “Time Cop” and claim its versatility; nah, in all honesty, I think there’s a place for JC in today’s movie climate – by starring in his first supernatural thriller.

Called “Holy Blood”, and based on a script by Sheldon Lettich and John Dombrow, the movie “deals with the occult and the supernatural, and there’s certainly some stuff in it that’s designed to be creepy and/or scary. But it’s not a horror movie per se, like — for example — “Evil Dead” or “Hostel” or “Halloween” or “Saw.” The short description I’ve given is “The Exorcist meets the X-Files.” What’s different is that it’ll have Van Damme instead of Father Karras, or Scully & Mulder”, the writer tells fans on the VanDammeFan.com site.

Van Damme will first star in the film “Pride” (a.k.a “The Smashing Machine”) before starting production on “Brood” next year.

In addition to “Blood”, the muscles from Brussels is also said to be circling another sci-fi pic.

I’ve got to be honest, I really enjoyed some of Van Damme’s earlier stuff – particuarly “Bloodsport”, “Kickboxer” and “Double Impact”. I also thought the films he did for Universal – most notably, “Time Cop” and “Sudden Death” were great; the latter almost skyrocketing JC into “Die Hard” territory. With a good script behind him… and a good director, of course… he could probably hit the multiplexes again.

Is this the one? No idea.
