Van Damme’s Double Impact sequel inching closer

Update! The lad that sent us the info from Van Damme Fan forum regarding “The Expendables 2” neglected to state that Lettich’s two quotes were written separately.

This is what was sent to us :

“‘JC seems to be leaning towards appearing in the sequel, as far as I know… If Steven Seagal is not in the sequel”, says the filmmaker, “From what I’ve heard it, [Seagal] won’t be because of Sly but because of producer Avi Lerner, who had a few bad experiences with Steven.”

In the form we were sent, it’s read as if Van Damme said he would only do “The Expendables 2” if Steven Seagal wasn’t involved. That’s not true – Lettich states that Seagal wouldn’t be involved because of Avi Lerner.

Here are the quotes as they should read :

“JC seems to be leaning towards appearing in the sequel, as far as I know. If Steven Seagal is not in the sequel, from what I’ve heard it won’t be because of Sly but because of producer Avi Lerner, who had a few bad experiences with Steven.”

So, there you go, no bad blood between Van Damme and Seagal at all.

Folks, if you going to send in stuff to us from other websites or forums, just make sure you send it as is – or just provide me with a link. Cheers.

A few months back we mentioned that Jean-Claude Van Damme had expressed interesting in sequelizing his 1991 actioner “Double Impact”.

Sheldon Lettich, the film’s writer/director, told readers of the Van Damme Fan website that the story would involve “Chad getting in trouble with a Chinese Triad gang in Los Angeles (which has a huge Chinese population), and Alex having to come from Hong Kong to help him out. Alex, of course, would be a fish-out-of-water, bull-in-a-china-shop in L.A., kind of like Crocodile Dundee or like Jackie Chan in RH2.”

Great story. Just one problem….

“The rights are all over the place” said Lettich, suggesting it wasn’t going to be easy to do a sequel to that particular film.

Today, in a new post at Van Damme Fan, Lettich suggested that the project might be inching closer to being a reality.

“We’re getting closer to resolving the rights issue, but it’s not something I can talk about yet, nor is it a sure thing. Stay tuned.”

Sounds like there’s been some talks.

In an unrelated post, Lettich mentions that Van Damme’s involvement in another sequel he’s been rumoured for for a while might be coming to fruition.
