Various Casting News

“Fahrenheit 451”, “The Sweeney”, “The Happening”

Some juicy casting rumours have been splashed across computer screens over the past couple of days….

Fahrenheit 451
Funny man turned statue-collector Tom Hanks is set to star in Frank Darabont’s film adaptation of ”Fahrenheit 451”, according to Aint it Cool News. The Ray Bradbury novel presents a future in which all books are banned and critical thought is suppressed. The central character, Guy Montag (Hanks), is employed as a “fireman” (which, in this case, means “book burner”). At one stage Mel Gibson was set to star in the lead role.

The Happening
Betty Buckley, star of the underrated Roman Polanksi movie “Frantic” (1988), has joined the cast of M.Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening”. Spencer Breslin, best known for his roles in Disney pics like “The Santa Clause” and “The Kid”, has also been cast. Bloody Disgusting has all the new additions.

Get Smart
You thought the Samuel L.Jackson (as Nick Fury) cameo in “Iron Man” was cool? Get this : Bill Murray as “Agent 13, who hides in mailboxes and trash cans in the TV series GET SMART, is played in the movie by Bill Murray”, says Aint it Cool.

The Sweeney
Ray Winstone (“Indiana Jones 4”) will be playing Jack Regan in a film version of the 70s cop show, being directed by Nick Love. Or so says Aint it Cool News. The police drama focused on two crime-fighting members of the Flying Squad, an elite branch of the British police force specialising in armed robbery and violent crime.

Untitled Streetfighting Film
Channing Tatum and Dito Montiel, the star and director of last year’s acclaimed independent feature “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints”, have signed to reteam on an action drama for Rogue Pictures, says Coming Soon. It’s a rough-hewn heroic tale about realizing dreams of glory, putting audiences ringside at high-stakes underground street fights.
