Various Sequel News : Dark Knight Returns, Star Trek 2, Terminator 5, Real Steel 2

Star Trek 2
Will the film be in 3D as previously rumoured? Maybe not, according to ‘series’ star Simon Pegg. “As far as I know, no” before adding, “I mean.. it depends. Maybe.” The British funnyman singles out “Tintin”, which he recently worked on, as one of the few occasions that 3D works. “When something’s made to be in 3D, if it somehow part of the experience, fair enough. I’ve done 3D movies. Tintin is amazing. That is going to be in 3D and that is going to be amazing. Sometimes, it’s like if you see a movie that doesn’t necessarily lend itself to 3D, like perhaps something live action or that isn’t built for 3D, it’s more like they’re worried about it. 3D can sometimes be a vote of no-confidence.” (More…)

The Avengers
Seems Edward Norton is still a little cheesed about the way Marvel ostracized him from “The Avengers”. “I found it a cheap and unnecessary representation that it was about things other than money,” sighs Norton. “They came to me avidly to talk about it and then at the end of the day it was just flat out a business decision.”
Norton says he had the last laugh. “I would say that blew back on them much worse than it blew back on me,” he avers. “I couldn’t have been happier with the experience that I had making the film, but nor do I feel any kind of intensity about doing it again. A really good friend of mine’s going to do it now [Mark Ruffalo] and he’s awesome! Marvel’s going to have to deal with their own karma – they’ve got bigger problems than me.” (More…)

Untitled “300” sequel
Producer Mark Canton compares the film to that of “The Godfather 2”. “It’s in Zack’s hands. We’re in a very good place. We’ve taken a lot of time, we didn’t want to just make a sequel. We’re very close to the group of people who made that movie and very respectful of what the fans think of the movie, so I can assure that we’re determined to make a great follow-up. It will not be a conventional sequel at all.” Asked whether it connects with the Xerxes storyline, Canton says “It’s just more Godfather Part II-like. There’s a lot going on, a parallel story. There’s a lot going on. Zack is writing it.” (More…)

Real Steel 2
A sequel to Hugh Jackman’s upcoming robot boxing movie is said to be already in the works. “”DreamWorks has gotten strong response to internal screenings of the film, and at a CinemaCon presentation of footage in Las Vegas. The film is a Rocky-meets-Transformers tale of a prize fighter whose pugilistic skills are rendered obsolete when human boxers are replaced by robots. The fighter (Jackman) becomes a boxing promoter and finds a discarded robot that wins and wins. The fighter also discovers he has a 13-year old son, who comes along for the ride as the robot heads toward the top against scary competition.” (More…)

X-Men : First Class 2
Director Matthew Vaughn says sequels to his upcoming “First Class” may be set in different decades. “1962 is far more grounded in the world of the ’50s. I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you’ve got The [Rolling] Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power…” (More…)

G.I Joe 2
“G.I Joe 2” director Jon Chu says the sequel will not only be “gritty” but if it’s in 3D it’ll be ‘filmed’ in 3D as opposed to converted to 3D in post. “There’s a reality to Joe, there’s like a grittiness to Joe; when I would burn them and their arm would fall off, the story would revolve around the guy whose arm fell off. It was about how each figurine had their own special accessory that was a part of their identity… It was always that detail, that grittiness that I feel like if Joe had it in there, it would be a totally different movie and have a totally different feel. So I approached them about what that would be like, and they loved the idea. And they had a script that was close, and we’re going now in and making it the way it should be. And the script they have is really good, actually, so we now want to build in a few more things that will make it even better.” (More…)

Terminator 5
“Fast Five” helmer Justin Lin has confirmed reports that he’s to direct the next “Terminator” movie. The filmmaker is also happy to hint at the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the film’s title character. “‘Terminator’ was one of my favorite films growing up, and I feel I have a take that I would love to see, and I’ve talked with Arnold [Schwarzenegger]” Lin says. He adds “I would love to do it, but it has to be the right circumstances. It has to be the right people. And there’s other projects too. I’m in a position now that I can choose more than I could a year ago, two years ago. So that is something that is potentially in my future, but when I get home I will sit down and look at my options and choose what I want to do.” (More…)
