Welcome back to the MCU, Spider-Man!

It’s not really that surprising that Disney/Marvel and Sony have managed to strike up a deal for another movie for “Spider-Man” as part of the MCU. To cement this news even further, the flick – to be produced by Kevin Feige for Sony – even has a release date of July 16, 2021.

Jon Watts, who is no stranger to the “Spider-Man” universe having directed the last two films, is in talks to direct the new flick.

Feige, Marvel’s president, commented in a statement: “I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

The deal also means that Spider-Man will also feature in a future Marvel movie.

Spider-Man’s involvement in the MCU fell apart quickly after “Far From Home”, with Disney/Marvel and Sony unable to reach a deal for the future of Spidey (currently played by Tom Holland), meaning that the character’s future in the MCU in doubt – and temporarily exiled him.

Thanks to THR for the news.
