Wesley Snipes still keen on Black Panther

The chap whose face adorns a dart-board over at the Goyer household, Wesley Snipes, told a Nigerian newspaper that he’s still keen to star in a film version of the comic-book "Black Panther", says Superhero Hype.

The film, which Snipes’s name has been linked to for a number of years, would tell of one of the first major non-caricatured black comic book characters, and the first major black superhero, a chap who’s entitled to the use of a heart-shaped herb that grants the person who consumes it enhanced strength, agility, and perception.

Ironically, David Goyer, who directed Snipes in "Blade Trinity", as well as wrote the previous films in that franchise, was once linked to direct. Goyer also wrote a screenplay for it at one time.

As they’ve had a falling out – over who got the most mug time in "Blade" – I’m sure Goyer’s about as excited at the prospect of this re-team now as he would be of having "Kickboxer 2" bought up in interviews.

Still, the "Blade" star says, "I’ve always been attracted to the story because the protagonist is a strong African figure, a monarch who is very intelligent and powerful, who uses his gifts to protect his people from external forces. In it, Africans are it."

The star continued "And as for me doing research here in Nigeria, no: that’s not what I’m here for. But now that you’ve mentioned it, it sounds like a great idea. I’d absolutely love to do ‘Black Panther’ in Nigeria."
