‘Breaking Bad’ creator Vince Gilligan has resigned with Sony.
The hottest scribe in Hollywood will stay with Sony Pictures TV, the company behind his coveted AMC drama series, penning a deal that falls in the eight-figure region.
The deal is only for television, however, which leaves the writer available to pen or direct features elsewhere.
Gilligan currently has two series set with Sony, ‘Battle Creek’ at CBS and AMC’s ‘Better Call Saul’, the writer’s ‘Breaking Bad’ spinoff.
Deadline reports that Gilligan had been highly sought after by a number of studios at the expiration of his previous Sony deal, with the battle coming down to Sony and Warner Bros. Ultimately the acclaimed writer decided to remain at his home where he has been for six years.
“Vince is an incredible writer and partner, and he shares our vision for the business and for the kinds of projects we’re passionate about,” said Jamie Erlicht, SPT president of programming and production. “There wasn’t a world where we weren’t making this deal.”
You can also catch Gilligan making his on-screen debut with a guest role in NBC’s ‘Community’, which is set to air “late winter or early spring” in the States.
