Insider ‘The Wraith’ sheds a little more light on what the MGM sell-off means for a couple of other high-profile film franchises, predominatly, the "Rocky" and "James Bond" series.
"MGM owns all three franchises (the third being "The Hobbit") but depending on what Studio buys MGM’s Library, we could see The Hobbit as a Sony movie instead of a New Line Cinema production (which could be a deciding factor for Peter Jackson), the next Bond come from Warner Brothers and the final Rocky film with either the lady liberty logo or the WB shield at the start of the film (Dreamworks is also bidding to distribute). Three franchises with new owners. It’s like buying a new house only more expensive", the insider explains.
Yesterday, Variety mentioned that if Time-Warner buys MGM then New Line – who Time-Warner own also – would able to make their "Lord of the Rings" prequel, "The Hobbit".
