Will Winona Ryder be back for Beetlejuice 2?

Seems Seth Graeme-Smith is true to his word.

Shorty after it was announced WB and producer Tim Burton had set the “Abraham Lincoln : Vampire Hunter” writer to do a new “Beetlejuice”, the wordsmith let the inquiring media know that their film would be a direct sequel to Burton’s 1988 hit. In other words, Michael Keaton would be back to play ‘The Ghost with the Most’ (Keaton has since verbally agreed to do the film).

But seems the new film will indeed be out to bonk fans of the original, with yet another original cast member possibly returning for the new film – if a meet is anything to go by.

Winona Ryder, who played emo-like Lydia in the original movie, tells MTV she’s talking to Burton “next week” and plans on discussing the sequel with him then.

“You tell me — I don’t know!” Ryder said when asked about whether the sequel was a go.” “I’ve heard from journalists, that’s how I found out, but I’m seeing Tim next week, and I will let you know.”

The 40-year-old “Black Swan” star adds, “I’m trying to think about how that would work. Obviously I’m not [the focal point]; it’s got to be Michael. So is it happening?” she wondered. “It’s being written, but is it happening? Tim hasn’t confirmed it yet [officially].”

While its not a sure thing Ryder would be involved, she’s a better shot than most involved in the first film.

Considering her character in the original film wasn’t a ghost, and therefore can age (as opposed to the characters Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin played), it’s quite likely that Ryder would return – of anyone from that original crew, anyway.

Ryder’s character Lydia was also present in an unproduced early ’90s sequel to “Beetlejuice” titled “Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian”.
An appearance, at least, would seem on the cards.

Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara and the late Glenn Shadix played the other humanly constituents of the original.
