Wonder Woman loses MacLaren, Perlman nabs Captain Marvel

Michelle MacLaren has departed Warner’s “Wonder Woman” movie citing creative differences.

“Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together,” the studio said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.

The parting of ways echoes the predicament between Patty Jenkins and Marvel when they went their own ways on “Thor 2” back in 2011. The trade speculates that MacLaren’s exit might have less to do with creative differences and be more concerned with how studios treat female superhero-movie filmmakers.

Gal Gadot is still attached to play the title role in “Wonder Woman”, due in 2017.

Meantime, “Guardians of the Galaxy” co-writer Nicole Perman and Meg LeFauve are in talks to write Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” movie.

The company’s key female-driven superhero movie is due in theaters July 6, 2018.

Perlman and LaFauve are not at writing team, but have been forced to be one if they want this gig. They apparently both impressed Marvel’s Kevin Feige.
