World War Z sequel needs a director

Juan Antonio Bayona has opted not to direct the sequel to Brad Pitt starrer “World War Z” after all.

Though the official line is ‘he had other commitments’, the numerous hiccups the first film suffered through production – and post- would undoubtedly have played a part. Maybe Bayona only had a chance to Google after he signed the dotted line?

Until we hear otherwise, and we may not, Paramount claim that “Because of pre-existing film commitments, Bayona is not able to make World War Z this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon”.

Steven Knight, of “Locke” fame, remains onboard to write the movie. Brad Pitt is expected to return as the main zombie dodger.

Bayona, whose other credits include the acclaimed “The Impossible” (2012), had signed on to direct the film last month. Seems the studio eased up on the Chinese burn and he made a run for it.

Marc Forster (“Quantum of Solace”) helmed the first film. And no, he definitely won’t be returning.

Though a huge hit, “World War Z” suffered numerous setbacks during the course of it’s filming – notably the many changes that had to be made to it’s third-act (what the heck was with Matthew Fox’s character? dude was relegated an extra!).

Might I suggest Angie, Brad?
