Yo Holmes, Be a Giver! The ex Mrs Cruise signs for Noyce’s latest

Katie Holmes’ career has come full circle.

A decade or so ago she was fronting “The Gift”. Now she’s doing – wait for it – “The Giver”.

Whoever is managing the one-off Bat-babe these days deserves a free box of slinkies or something, marvelous job!

Director Phil Noyce has snagged the “Batman Begins” and “Dawson’s Creek” beauty to join his starry science-fictioner, based on the young adult novel of the ’90s, says THR. Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep and Brenton Thwaites are already signed and sealed.

Brenton Thwaites is the young star of the sci-fi project, which tells of a society in which there is no conflict, racism or sickness.

Thwaites plays a young boy who is selected for his life service as the Receiver of Memories and works with The Giver (Bridges), an old man who teaches the boy to use his unique gifts of the senses. Streep is the society’s Chief Elder, an authoritative and antagonistic woman who assigns the young their tasks.

Holmes will play Thwaites’ mother, a strict obeyer of the laws that govern what is described as an antiseptic society.

Wait… I’m sorry? Katie Holmes is playing the mother of a teenager? Am I missing something here? Feels like yesterday that girl was climbing through Dawson’s window in her slimming shorts and tanked-top, wanting to get all Spielberg with her boy pal?

Whatever the case, with Noyce (“Salt”, “Clear and Present Danger”) in charge, I’m not arguing – he knows what he’s doing (as opposed to Dawson, who didn’t seem to have much of a clue about women, thus the reason he ended up doing lapdances for Spielberg and not canoodling with Joey every night).

Martin Freeman joins Fargo; wonder if he was a hard Hobbit to break?

Clint refuses to cover the remake and instead covers the original About Last Night…
