Zombie shooter gets himself some Hot Wheels

Second-unit director Simon Crane has snagged a promotion; he’ll direct the “Hot Wheels” film for Legendary Pictures.

It came down to Crane, who has worked on such films as “World War Z” and “Maleficent”, and “28 Days Later” helmer Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, says THR.

Based on the Mattel toy line, the film “centers on a washed-up Illinois State Trooper who, after a dangerous military device falls into the hands of a criminal, fight the man his father once put behind bars.”

Paul Attanasio (“The Good German”) is currently rewriting Art Marcum and Matt Holloway’s original script.

Michael Bay was circling the project at one stage, but couldn’t come up with a take he liked enough for the film.
