Charlize Theron Plans a Reunion with Young Adult Director

While last year’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” got Charlize Theron very widespread praise, back in 2011 she also had another standout role in “Young Adult,” directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. Theron played a lonely, self-deprecating fiction writer who travels to her hometown to try and rekindle a relationship with her high school boyfriend. The film did garner critical acclaim but seemed to be quickly forgotten by most. But luckily, according to Deadline, the trio is planning a second outing with an untitled “motherhood” project.

Some of Reitman’s other notable work includes “Up in the Air” and the Oscar-winning “Juno,” and Cody just recently wrote scripted the Meryl Streep film “Ricki and the Flash.” So even though there may be almost nothing that well-developed about the new project so far, having these three involved already gives it a great start.

Because the film has not been officially confirmed, there’s no release date as of yet. Although it’s a stretch, it would be interesting to see it connect with the “Young Adult” story somehow, since it left viewers with a bit of an ambiguous ending. But it’s probably more rational to guess that the trio will come up with an original idea instead.

Theron can be seen next in “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” on April 22nd.
