Raimi, Tapert want Campbell back for Evil Dead movie

Before he decided to hang up the boomstick, “Ash vs. Evil Dead” producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi approached Bruce Campbell with the idea of reprising ‘Ash Williams’ for a new feature film – the fourth in the “Evil Dead” series, if you will.

Speaking about the recent cancellation of the Starz series, and what lay ahead for the “Evil Dead” franchise, Tapert told attendees of Motor City Comic Con that they want to do a new movie.

“We had a really great idea for where it was going to go in the future, and it was something Sam had been talking about: rebooting a movie. What that scenario could be. And then, Bruce wrote to Sam and I one day, ‘If they don’t [renew the series], I’m retiring from Ash.’ [We asked], ‘But wait, Bruce, what about a movie?!’ [Campbell noted], ‘No, I’m retiring.’ So. We’ll see.”

If Campbell doesn’t agree to reprise Ash, sounds like the franchise will continue without him. Fede Alvarez has mentioned in recent times that he’d be keen to directing a follow-up to his 2013’s “Evil Dead” remake… so there’s that.

“Sam and myself have been talking about what a new incarnation would be”, Tapert said.

“Ash vs. Evil Dead” recently concluded its third and final season on Starz.
