Ashleigh predicts bigness from Mandela : Long Walk to Freedom

”Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” premiered in South Africa over the weekend.

Based on his autobiography of the same title, the film traces Nelson Mandela’s life, from his humble beginnings in the Eastern Cape, to his 27 years in prison, to his appointment as the countries first black president.

The film was directed by Justin Chadwick and stars Idris Elba (”Prometheus” & ”Pacific Rim”) as Nelson Mandela and Naomie Harris (”Skyfall”) as Winnie Mandela.

The 95 year old peace icon, who has spent much of this year in hospital with a critical lung infection, was too frail to attend the event and remains housebound, receiving medical care.

The film is also set to be screened at the White House, with President Obama planning a special showing of the film this Thursday, November 7th, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Stars Elba and Harris are expected to be in attendance along with Mandela’s daughters Zindzi and Zenani.
