Tatum’s Ghostbusters movie probably dead

One of the emails hackers unearthed for the world to see from their Sony computer rummage last year featured a conversation between a [very enthusiastic] Channing Tatum and studio brass; within it the “Magic Mike” actor’s proposal for a new “Ghostbusters” movie – one that he and friend Chris Pratt would star in, with Joe and Anthony Russo (of “Captain America : The Winter Soldier” fame) producing. Tatum was gung-ho to do it, and believed it’d be a perfect way to spin-off Paul Feig’s upcoming all-girly “Ghostbusters” reboot.

But seems, for one reason or another, Sony aren’t as jazzed about the idea as they might have initially been.

Speaking to The AV Club, Tatum hinted that his “Ghostbusters” movie is off the cards.

“That thing’s gotten messy, I gotta be honest. There’s a lot of people doing a lot of things on Ghostbusters… Yeah. I don’t know, is the answer.”

What could’ve happened is that the studio decided to abandon the idea once the idea was leaked via those emails, or maybe someone connected to the new “Ghostbusters” movie – Paul Feig, possibly? – loathed the idea and wanted it squished. Pratt, who Tatum mentioned as a possible co-star, had also said recently that not only is he not involved in it but that he’d never spoken to Tatum about it. So, quite possibly, the actor jumped the gun on the whole thing.. and that’s why it got messy?

Meanwhile, Tatum’s fierce words for “G.I Joe” have caused a bit of an internet ruckus. Speaking about his dislike for the movie, in which he played ‘Duke’, the actor said “Look, I’ll be honest. I f–king hate that movie. I hate that movie. I was pushed into doing that movie… [After] ‘Coach Carter,’ they signed me for a three-picture deal… And as a young [actor], you’re like, ‘Oh my god, that sounds amazing, I’m doing that.’ The script wasn’t any good. I didn’t want to do something that I thought was 1) bad, and 2) I just didn’t know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe.”

Tatum reprised his “G.I Joe” role for the sequel but was killed off about 15 minutes into the movie.
