Plane crash kills two on Tom Cruise film set

A tragic plane crash on the set of Tom Cruise film “Mena” has left two dead and seriously injured a third person.

The accident took place on Friday night on the set in Medellin, Colombia, when the twin-engine Aerostar crashed into the Alto de la Clarita mountain.

According to Variety, the two people killed were identified as American film pilot Alan David Purwin and Colombian Carlos Berl.

American pilot Jimmy Lee Garind was seriously injured and rushed to a hospital in Medellin.

Bad weather is believed to have caused the accident.

UPDATE: A Universal Pictures spokesperson has said the following in a statement: “An aircraft carrying crew members crashed while returning to Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin following production wrap on the film ‘Mena’ resulting in two fatalities. Further details are not available at this time. On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time.”
