A ‘big’ Twin Peaks fave looks to be back for Showtime revival…

Looks like Everett McGill’s back as ‘Big’ Ed Hurley for the “Twin Peaks” revival!

That’s exciting for a couple of reasons. Firstly, McGill’s Hurley was one of the standouts of the original Lynch/Frost gem, and it’d sure be a shame if the towering, amiable Gas Station Owner wasn’t back for the new round of eps, but more so, McGill retired from acting years ago – and has seemingly been hiding from the industry since. I know so because I attempted to reach out to McGill to offer him a role in a little genre picture I was doing (with the late Patrick Swayze, among others) that was essentially a satire on the werewolf sub-genre. The man was harder to contact than E.T’s mother ship. Just no way to do it. Seems he finished up his time with Hollywood and moved on without leaving his forwarding address. So that didn’t happen. Neither did the movie for that matter – but that’s a whole other story. David Lynch, believe it or not, had just as much trouble contacting McGill last year – so much so he put the call out on the social networks that he would be so appreciative if anyone could help locate him. Lynch would later confirm he, with painstaking effort, tracked the actor down. Cool bananas.

Of course, we couldn’t help but wonder why Lynch would be wanting to track down McGill? But I think it’s pretty clear now – he was wanting to secretly clue him in on the new “Twin Peaks” series he was shopping around and to suss out his interest in returning for it.

And if this sign (‘Ed’s Gas’) that just went up on the set is anything to go by, Lynch has twisted his arm.

Wendy Robie, who played Ed’s long-time squeeze, kooky Nadine, is also back for the sequel series (she now runs a drape store, it seems) so one without the other wouldn’t make too much sense.
