A Ghostbusters 3 with the original crew might still happen!

The “Ghostbusters” film we’ve been waiting for for all these years  – yep, the one with the original crew back covered in Slimer syrup – might still happen, according to franchise champion Dan Aykroyd.

Aykroyd was gung-ho to do a second sequel to the 1984 hit, and had been developing it for years, when Sony announced that they’d instead be doing a reboot of the series.. with an all-female cast (and more so, no links to the original movie).

Surprisingly, Aykroyd was Okay with that.

Seems money wasn’t the only thing to turn that frown upside down.

Aykroyd seems to think that after Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” reboot, the original crew might get back together for a more traditional sequel.

“There’s three drafts of the old concept that exists. And we’re going to be able to salvage some of it and use it”, the ‘Saturday Night Live’ alum told Sirius FM. “We’re going to be able to use it someday. Let’s get this one made and that will reinvigorate the franchise and then we’ll go on to maybe doing a more conventional third sequel as we were planning and another idea I have for it.”

Of course, this called all just be wishful thinking of Aykroyd’s part.

As for the 2016 reboot, which will star Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, among others, the Blues Brother reiterated that he’s happy that it’s happening (anyone else hear the ‘ca-ching’!?).

“I can tell you, as the originator, I’m very happy with what [Feig’s] done. It’s very tasteful. And it needed a reworking. The thing needed a new engine. You know? It needed knew exhaust. It needed new steering. And this is what we’re getting.”

Aykroyd continued, “The real reality in fact of the third movie with this tremendous cast of women, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig – I’ve got three daughters, so I’m all for female empowerment… [Feig] establishes the voices beautifully in these characters. Now of course, he’s got masters playing the roles for him, so this is going to really work in our favour for the third movie.”
