Adult Muppet Movie be on the cards

?????????????????????

The long-gestating adult ‘Muppet’ project, “The Happytime Murders” is back in active development, says Heat Vision.

STX Entertainment is partnering with The Jim Henson Company to steer the dark-comedy, based on a script discovered on the legendary Black List, which is said to be a mix between “Avenue Q” and “L.A Confidential”.

Brian Henson remains attached to direct.

Happytime takes place in a world where humans and puppets coexist, with the puppets viewed as second-class citizens. When the puppet castmembers of 1980s children’s TV show The Happytime Gang begin turning up dead, a disgraced LAPD detective turned private eye puppet — with a drinking problem, no less — takes the case with his former human partner.

Though Todd Berger and Dee Robertson wrote the initial drafts, Erich and Jon Hoeber are now writing the project.

The project was originally set up at Lionsgate in 2010 but the project proved too difficult to get going and ultimately the rights reverted back to Henson.
