Batman & Robin writer onboard Divergent 2

Avika Goldsman, the “Beautiful Mind” screenwriter who went on to win Oscar glory as a result of his handiwork on the Ron Howard-directed drama, has been tapped to write the sequel to “Divergent”.

While the studio searches for a new director – “Divergent” director Neil Burger won’t be returning – for “Insurgent”, the Award-winning screenwriter will hurriedly craft the blueprint of the sequel. The studio hopes to begin filming the follow-up in the spring, so time is of the essence.

Goldsman, who makes his directorial debut with this year’s “A Winter’s Tale” (suggesting he might also end up directing “Insurgent”), can definitely work under pressure… but the hurried “Batman & Robin” that he worked on back in the ’90s suggests he works better when a gun isn’t pressed to his head.

Don’t fret though “Divergent” fans, Goldsman has more ‘good’ on his CV than bad; his other credits include “The Da Vinci Code”, TVs “Fringe”, “I Am Legend”, “I, Robot”, “Cinderella Man” and (the slightly better ‘Bat-flick’) “Batman Forever”.
