BBC planning a TV version of The Birds

Alfred Hitchcock is the pinup boy of horror, and though his movies are aging, they remain fairly timeless. 1963’s “The Birds” saw residents of Bodega Bay get terrorised and attacked by birds, making us all afraid of what’s in the air as much as what’s on the land and in the sea.

The Digital Spy is reporting that the BBC is planning on rebooting the horror-thriller into a TV format, and creating a contemporary TV drama from the film. The 1963 film was based loosely on a story by Daphne du Maurier, and it’s said that the TV series will be more true to this novella as opposed to Hitchcock’s film.

Thus, the BBC take will be set in rural Cornwall, where a farmhand and his community is being terrorised by flocks of birds and seagulls shortly after the end of the Second World War.

The new series will be produced by Heyday Television, and written by Conor McPherson. Thus far no details on actors or director has been announced.
