Billy Bob Thornton joins Eagle Eye

D.J Caruso’s thriller starring Shia LaBeouf

Billy Bob Thornton’s got the “Eagle Eye” (better than having someone’s blood in a necklace hanging around your trunk).

The actor, we’ve been informed, has joined the cast of the new Shia LaBeouf starrer, being directed by D.J Caruso. Rehearsals for the film start tonight.

Having read most of the script, I can honestly say that no matter how small the role – and I’m assuming it isn’t – it’s a ripe picking for ol’ Sling Blade. He’s been swimming in comedy junk river for a while – with the likes of “Waking Up in Reno”, “School for Scoundrels” and “Mr Woodcock” tarnishing his otherwise reasonably good filmography there – now, so good to see him back in something with a little meat and potatoes.

Based on an idea by Steven Spielberg, the pic tells of a young slacker (LaBeouf) and a single mama (Michelle Monaghan) who get tangled up in a terrorist cell plotting a political assassination. There’s a couple of agent characters (one of them played by Rosario Dawson) in the flick; assumingly BBT will play one of them.
