Karvan out a remake role

Aussie Claudia joins Caviezel for “Weekend” redo

Claudia Karvan has just taken another step towards Tinseltown.

The Aussie starlet, best known for her role on TV hits “The Secret Life of Us” and “Love My Way”, has scored the female lead role in Jamie ‘Urban Legend’ Blanks’ remake of the 30-year-old Aussie thriller “The Long Weekend”, says Shock Till You Drop.

“She’s perfect casting,” Blanks says of the actress, who just wrapped “Daybreakers” opposite Ethan Hawke.

James Caviezel will play the male lead.

The original film told of a couple who head to an Island for a holiday that they hope will improve their relationship. Nature decides to make it a threesome – and puts on quite a frightening show for them while they’re there.

The film, shooting near Tasmania shortly, won’t be one of those CGI shitfests, says the filmmaker. “I’m going to stick very closely to the original film. We’re going to do it all like we did back in the ’70s – give it a bit of a retro feel. I don’t want to re-invent it, I want to remake it, put my style on it. The couple in the film, they’re relationship isn’t going to be so cut-and-dry as in the original film. There will be some complexities to that, but I’m going to go for the ambiguity the original had – maybe nature rose up, maybe it didn’t. That’ll all be in place.”
