Brie Larson will have to kiss Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street

Newcomer Brie Larson (TVs “United States of Tara”) has nabbed the female lead in “21 Jump Street”, the feature film version of the ’80s TV series that Phil Lord and Chris Miller (”Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”) are directing for Sony, says Deadline. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum take on the roles made famous by Johnny Depp and Peter DeLuise on the show, undercover cops who hide out in highschools. Ice Cube will play the captain.

If I recall correctly, the studio were initially interested in Emma Stone (who opted to do “Amazing Spider-Man” instead) for the part.

Larson, whose film credits include “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”, “Greenberg” and “Remember the Daze”, will play Molly, Jonah Hill’s love interest in the film.

We recently ran some rather spoilerish details about the film – which Hill is producing as well as starring in – including how ‘Molly’ fits into the story.

Couple of older cops, blessed with the young gene, go undercover in highschool. To keep up the facade, they’re both back living at home.
Schmidt (Hill) and partner Zenko (Tatum) take on the guise of two teenage brothers new at Sagan High School.
They’re there to put a stop to a drug ring, which by all indications is run by ‘coolest guy in the school’ Eric.
Naturally, both Schmidt and Zenko are forced to befriend Eric, ultimately being welcomed into his gang, but Schmidt also decides to start spending time with the suspect’s squeeze Molly (Larson).
Naturally, Doug develops feelings for the girl and ultimately risks his cover in an attempt to guard her from the impending drug bust at Prom.
