“Buffy, the Vampire Slayer” scribe Marti Noxon has been enlisted to do a rewrite on the [will it ever get made!?] film “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies”, according to ItsOnTheGrid.com.
David O. Russell and Michael Bacall had previously worked on the film, a twisted take on the Jane Austen classic that’s based on the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith.
Craig Gillespie, who worked with Noxon on the upcoming “Fright Night” remake, is directing “Pride”.
In a recent interview with MTV, Gillespie explained his interest in the “Zombies” .
“It stays very true to the classic Pride and Prejudice,” Gillespie said of Grahame-Smith’s spin on Jane Austen’s beloved classic. “And it’s set in that period, then of course there’s zombies.”
When asked what he likes most about tackling the genre-bending film, Gillespie said that the unexpected coupling of old school aristocratic English society and the fantastical nature of zombies is too fun to resist.
“That clash [of] having to do such a classic dramatic piece that has so much weight to it and people are so familiar with, and then just throw it on its head [is appealing,]” Gillespie explained. He wouldn’t comment on any progress in casting, however.
“Not yet, no,” he said of whether he had an actors or actresses in mind for the coveted roles of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. “It’s early.”
No casting yet but Natalie Portman was the favourite back when O’Russell was onboard.
