Disney’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea : Captain Nemo”, from “Se7en” director David Fincher, will call Australia home – if negotiations between Disney and the local government go as planned, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The Australian government has agreed to offer Disney a 30 percent locations rebate worth about AUS$20 million to shoot the film here, says the newspaper.
The remake of the Jules Verne classic would either film at Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland or at Fox Studios in Sydney. The project, which would be the biggest ever film to shoot down under, is expected to exceed the 2000 local jobs “The Wolverine” generated when it shot in Sydney recently.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the paper’s intel on the film shooting down under, but says Brad Pitt’s attachment is untrue. Whilst Pitt was long attached to the project, it’s believed he’s no longer onboard.
Arts Minister Simon Crean was said to have met with Disney executives this morning to finalize the deal.
