Chastain or Wiig for Ridley Scott’s The Martian?

Jessica Chastain is in early talks to star as the female lead in sci-fier “The Martian” opposite male lead Matt Damon.

Ridley Scott is directing the film for Fox.

Deadline also reports that Kristen Wigg is being considered for a lead role, but concedes that “at this point, Chastain seems likelier than Wiig to be set for the film”.

Drew Goddard penned the script based on Andy Weir’s e-book. The story follows an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars and faces a battle to survive long enough to make his way home.

Simon Kinberg initially pitched the book to Scott. He will produce with Aditya Sood through his Genre Films Banner.

The news of Chastain’s involvement comes thanks to Variety.
