Clint’s Bits – 3/11/09

– Principal photography began today on Matt Reeves’ remake of the Swedish horror hit ”Let The Right One In”. ”Let Me In”, lensing in New Mexico, stars Richard Jenkins, Kody Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz and Elias Koteas. The filmmakers note that while the new film will pay respect to the original Swedish version, they intend to forge a unique identity for “Let Me In”, placing it firmly in an American context. “This project is very personal to Matt as it is to the many passionate fans of the original story,” said Simon Oakes, President and CEO of Hammer Films. “The brilliance of that story deserves to be seen by audiences on a wide scale and we are excited that the pieces are in place to make that a reality.”

IGN Movies has premiered the trailer for “Prince of Persia”.

– Fox will be hosting a launch party for the new “Say Anything….” 20th Anniversary DVD and Blu-Ray in Times Square, New York City on November 3. If I was a Manhattan-ite, I’d definitely be there – I love “Say Anything…” more than I love oxygen! Says the press release, “Dressed in trench coats and carrying boomboxes, a mob of Lloyd Dobler look-a-likes will take to the streets in search of winning back true love. From Union Square to Penn Station to NYU, the Doblers will inspire romance all over the Big Apple and ultimately journey to Times Square for the formation of a full-blown “Mobler” and live concert on the bleachers.”

– Collins Penne (‘Fame’) and Pooch Hall have joined the cast of the “Stomp the Yard” sequel. (Blackfilm)

– It’s official! TNT has picked up the terrific “Southland”. Details at Turner.Com and The New York Times.

– South African actor Matthew Dylan Baker (“Free Willy 3”) will join Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander for Warner Premiere’s “Lost Boys 3 : The Thirst”. Baker will play Blake, one of Edgar Frog’s (Feldman) buddies; he’ll join up with his vampire-slaying buddy to rescue a youngster from a deadly vampire known as D.J Dusk. Filming commences this month in South Africa.

– Sounds like Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) will be doing double duty on both “Lost” and “V” (Entertainment Weekly)

– Joss Whedon (“Buffy”) has made a rather ‘comical’ bed for the “Terminator” franchise. You can read his open letter here.

– ‘The Queen’ herself, Helen Mirren, will join Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman in the film adaptation of the comic book “Red” (Screen Daily).

– Universal has tapped “Tron Legacy” writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to pen the board game-to-screen adaptation of “Ouija” which is being produced by Platinum Dunes (Heat Vision).

– Tobe Hooper will not be involved in the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movie…. that’s not to say he wasn’t approached (Bloody Disgusting).

Aint it Cool News has published the first review of “A Nightmare on Elm Street”. The review, is not surprisingly, weighing on the negative.

– Gregory Itzin will reprise his role as the disgraced president Logan on the next season of “24”. In the upcoming season, sitting President Taylor (Cherry Jones) reluctantly enlists Logan to assist with an escalating international diplomatic crisis. “The opportunity for these two remarkable actors to share the stage was simply too compelling to pass up,” “24” executive producer/showrunner Howard Gordon said (The Hollywood Reporter).

– Former “Hart to Hart” star Robert Wagner (No.2 from the “Austin Powers” movies to you younger readers) will play Tony’s dad on an upcoming episode of “NCIS” (Michael Ausiello).
