Cronenberg : I’ve written a sequel to The Fly

David Cronenberg has written a sequel to “The Fly”, his 1986 remake of the popular B-movie from the ’50s .

Cronenberg’s film, starring Jeff Goldblum as mortein fodder and Geena Davis as the disgusted love interest, was a hit with critics and audiences when it was released. A sequel, produced three years later, simply titled “The Fly II” took ‘The Son of…’ approach, with Eric Stoltz playing Goldblum’s buzzing son.

Cronenberg, asked about three-year-old rumours that he might be involved in a new “Fly”, tells Shock Till You Drop that he has written a sequel to his film – suggesting the libretto overlooks the events of the 1989 sequel – but he doesn’t know what’s happening with it.

“‘The Fly’ is not exactly a remake, it’s sort of a sequel, kinda. Yeah, that was a thing. I’ve written a script of that, and I don’t know if that’s going to really happen, but that has to do with Fox.”
