Cruise doing Mena – no, not Suvari

Tom Cruise looks to reunite with his “Edge of Tomorrow” director Doug Liman for “Mena”, a 1980’s-set crime drama about a pilot that smuggled drugs for the CIA and a cartel.

Real-life pilot Cruise would play Barry Seal, the pilot who also moonlighted as a gun runner and trafficker for the CIA and Medellin cartel. Seal was shot to death by that cartel in Baton Rouge.

Gary Spinelli wrote the film, which would begin filming later this year.

Dennis Hopper played Seal in the movie “Double Crossed”.

A similar-themed project is also in the works at Legendary. It would star Charlie Hunnam as a high school footballer player who became the equivalent of a cartel leader in Mexico. The film would be based on a Rolling Stone article. Jason Hall (“American Sniper”) wrote the project.
